The Academic Team Needs You!

The RCHS Academic Team is looking to introduce new members for its 2019 – 2020 year. All students are eligible to apply (2.5 GPA is required by the board to participate in competitions).

The Academic team includes many subject areas to specialize in to showcase your personal strengths including, Quick Recall, Composition/Written competitions and Future Problem Solving. Future Problem Solving will be headed by Mrs. Devin Godby while Quick Recall and the content areas will be headed by the assistant coach Dalton Robertson.

The different content areas of Academic team allow all types of students to showcase their strengths and interests, so while you may not be a academically strong student, you may be able to bring something new to the team. The subject areas of Academic team are as follows:

Quick Recall is the most well known part of the team. A team of four work together to buzz-in and answer questions given to both teams which requires a sharp mind and some memorization.

The five written assessment categories are either 50 question multiple choice questions. They include, but are not excluded to, Science, Math and English.

Composition writing is an On Demand writing prompt. You are given the prompt and 90 minutes to complete an essay.

And lastly, Future Problem Solving (FPS), which is going to be a huge focus area this year. A team of four are given what is called a “fuzzy” which is a problem set in the distant future. It is up to you and your team to come up with all the problems in the scene, come up with the best solution to solve the main problem, and to create an action plan that could be followed though.

Whether you want to be part of the Quick Recall team, composition, or FPS, the Academic Team wants you! The first practice will be held Monday, September 9th from 2:45 – 3:45 and every Monday from then on. All questions pertaining to joining the team and/or practices and competition dates can be directed towards the Head Coach, Mrs. Godby.
