Last Week in Laker Sports – April 29

Last week in Laker sports the Laker Baseball and Lady Laker Softball teams each had a great week. On Monday April 22 the baseball team played Green County, with a comeback win of a score 8-7. On Tuesday both Laker Baseball and Lady Laker Softball brought home district wins, with the Baseball team beating Metcalfe County 4-1 and the Softball team winning 8-7.

On Wednesday April 24 the Baseball team got another district win against Cumberland County 7-4. On Thursday the Softball team played another district game against Cumberland County wining 15-5 and improving their record to 15 and 4. On Friday, April 26th the baseball team traveled to Louisville to play in the LIT.  The Laker baseball team played against the 10th-ranked team in the state (Oldham County), beating them with a high score of 22-20–breaking a state record of most hits in a high school baseball game.

The Laker baseball team turned around the next day to play the 14th-ranked team in the state Central Hardin.  The Lakers beat the top contenders 5-2, and later-on the played Union County beating them 6-0 and improving their record to 17 and 4.

The Laker Boys Tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season by defeating Clinton County on Monday by an overall match score of 3-2.  The following players won their singles sets:  Lucas McFall 6-0, Jay Bailey 6-5, and Dillan Sullivan 4-1.  In doubles the following won their sets:  Nathan McQueary/Nathan Garland 6-2, and Jaxon Popplewell/Caleb Howard 4-1.  The Girl’s tennis team also beat Clinton Co 3-0.  Baylee Hart won her set 6-4, and Abby Wolford won her set 6-1.  In doubles, Abigail Loy and Sarah Loy won their set 6-4.

The Laker Boys Tennis team we’re defeated by Casey County on Tuesday with an overall match score of 6-2.  In singles, Nathan McQueary won his set 6-4.  In doubles Nathan Garland and Nathan McQueary lost their set 4-6 and Braden Coe and Jay Bailey won their set 6-4.  The Laker Girls Tennis team lost their overall match to Casey County by a score of 1-4.  Baylee Hart won her singles match by a score of 2 sets to 0.

The Laker track also had a meet on Saturday April 27 in the Lake Cumberland Classic at Somerset High School.  None of our participants placed in any of the events.
