Even though RCHS students were on a nine-day vacation, The Mighty Laker Softball and Baseball teams were still hard at work bringing home wins to Russell County over Spring Break!

The Mighty Laker Baseball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete in the “Cal Ripken Experience.” The Lakers overall record was 1-2 at the tournament in Varsity play, beating McDowell County (of Erie, PA) with a score of 2-1. The Lakers were defeated by Knox Central (7-0) and Raceland (13-0). Back in KY, the Lakers also competed in a tournament on Saturday in Garrard County. The Lakers went 2-0 in the tournament, defeating Pike County Central (13-3) and Garrard County (11-2).  The Lakers improved to an overall record of 7-2.

The Lady Laker softball team played in multiple games over the break. The Lady Lakers faced-off against the Hart County Raiders, defeating them 3-1. The Lady Lakers then traveled to Covington to compete in the “Uncle Pete Noll Classic.” Russell County faced  3 teams at this Classic which included: Pendleton County, Bishop Brossart, and Grant county. The Lakers went 1-2 in this tournament, defeating Grant county with a score of 7-3, and losing to Bishop Brossart (6-2) and Pendleton county (10-3). The Lady Lakers softball record is now 7-4.

Just as Spring Break was beginning, two members of the Laker Bass Fishing Team brought home a State Championship!  You can read all about it here.  The Tennis Teams as well as the Track Team were on hiatus during the break and will return to action this week.

We hoped everyone had a safe and fun Spring Break. Be sure to check back next week for more Mighty Laker Sports updates. Have a great week back at school!
