Winter Break Laker Sports Recap – Jan. 4th

As usual our Laker Sports teams were quite busy during Christmas Break!  Here is a summary of all the recent action…

The Laker Bowling team traveled to Danville to compete in the 3rd round of the Bowlarama tournament series. Our Lady Lakers were seeded 6th after qualifying and took on the 3rd seeded East Jessamine. They won the best two out of three to move on to the semi-final match against Boyle Co. Our Ladies fought hard but come up short finishing in 3rd place. Our Laker Boys Bowling Team was seeded in 4th place after qualifying and took on West Jessamine. Winning the best two out of three to move on to the semi-final match against Boyle Co.  There, they came up short and finished in 4th place.

This past Saturday the Laker Bowling team traveled to Owensboro to compete in the Kentucky Wesleyan Holiday Showcase. Our Lady Lakers were seeded 6th after qualifying. They defeated Owensboro in the first round of finals. In the second round they faced  the Apollo Eagles where they came up short losing in the second round. Our Laker boys were seeded 6th after qualifying. In the first round of finals they were defeated by Pleasure Ridge Park.

The Lady Laker Basketball team was also very busy over the winter break. The girls traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the “Smokey Mountain Classic”. Out of 3 games, the Ladies lost to North Laurel and Livingston academy, and defeated Collins High school.

The following week the Lady Lakers took third place in the Bankers Hardwood Classic by defeating Green Co. 54-50. The lady Lakers also defeated Cooper by a score of 65-48.  Over the break they also defeated Warren Central in a regular season game with a score of 50-21. The Lady Lakers basketball team’s record is now 8-6.

The Laker Boys Basketball team also traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee as well as to Somerset, Kentucky for two tournaments over winter break. At the “Smokey Mountain Classic” tournament, Our boys team played against Corbin, Buckhorn, and Robertsdale (Alabama), with a 1-2 record in the tournament beating Robertsdale.

At the “Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic” Tournament in Somerset, our boys faced off against Aiken (Cincinnati), Newport Central Catholic, and Cumberland County. Their record for that tournament was 1-2 as well, with a win over Cumberland County. The Lakers Boys’ Basketball team’s record is now 3-9.

The Laker Swim Team has been off competition since the middle of December, but will return to action on Thursday January 10.  Be sure to check back next week for more Mighty Laker Sports updates.  Have a great weekend!
